The following question was sent to all Town Council and School Board candidates. In answering this question, we gave candidates the opportunity to be considered for endorsement by the Cape Dems, regardless of political affiliation due to the nonpartisan nature of municipal elections.

The 2024 Maine Democratic Platform outlines the core values of the party and the key issues its candidates are dedicated to addressing. These include safeguarding democracy, advancing women’s reproductive rights, protecting civil liberties and social justic, ensuring safe and affordable housing as a human right, supporting high-quality, accessible public education, and preserving Maine’s natural resources while planning for the challenges of climate change.

How do your personal values align with those of the Democratic Party, and if elected, how would you work to advance these priorities in Cape Elizabeth?

Christopher Boniakowski

Candidate for School Board

As a school board candidate, I recognize that my influence over these issues will not be as profound as other elected offices. However, our schools are the first place our students learn about the impact of these issues, and how they can choose to shape their future. As such, first and foremost in my mind is providing access to high quality education, for all. In the near term that means building a physical environment that supports modern methods and all types of learners. In the longer term it means continuing to foster that environment to support our students to create a space where they feel safe and engaged. It means attracting and retaining staff and enabling them do their work, and it means working with district leadership to enact policies to ensure our students are both benefiting, and being protected, from continual changes in an always-connected world.
